Q6 Based on the text Off Centre, discuss how peer acceptance and family support are vital to social status and mental well-being.
Peer acceptance and family support is the key to social status and mental well being because the mentally unstable people needs both of this to feel wanted back by society or to get cured back and be back to reality.
Firstly, peer acceptance is like vinod with his junior college friends denise and charlie and also his close friend johnson who was avoiding his phone calls and also ignoring him.It shows how the normal people cannot fit in with the truth about someone being off centre they will either try to accept or just ignore the fact about it.
Secondly, family support is the most important because for vinod he really needed and wanted it because his parents are rich and proffesionals and very highly so they tend to just leave vinod and let him be.They want vinod to do well but they do not show affection towards him all he wanted and needed was their parental love but that was the only thing they did'nt gave him.He wanted a hug

Q5: "Datta, Dayadhvam, Damyatta" means to "Give, Sympathise, Control". How did the major characters in the play exert control in their environment and/or their lives? Support your answer with evidence from the text.
In the play Vinod and Mak was the one who exert control in their life towards saloma. They were the one who always trying to change saloma way of life.
Firstly, vinod was the one who wanted to control Saloma he just treated saloma like a stray cat lost in an expressway. He just couldnt let her go and wanted to control everything that goes in her life .When she didnt like it he would change it.
Secondly, saloma's mak was controlling in saloma's choice of friends, her jobs and also her medication that the doctor prescribe. She was rather choosy and used religion as a way to stop her from doing things. She didnt like saloma hanging around with emily and insisted that saloma was'nt crazy and she was rather convincing towards her.

Q4)"Though a minor role in the play, the character of Razali is key to the plot of Off centre."To what extent do you agree with this assessment?
I don't agree that razali plays an important role in the play as he was someone whom Vinods relied on.He was one of the reasons that lead to vinod inevitable end because he was'nt there to protect him when they were robbed but he was one of the causes not the key to it.
Firstly.they met when vinod and saloma was under the void deck.He came to them and talk to vinod about saloma and he started to make jokes. He kept talking and talking to them and he even bought epok2 for saloma -act 2 scene 3 pg 70.It shows how saloma felt that Razali was a father figure for her.
Secondly, vinod really taught that razali would be there for them when they were robbed. He really relied on him when they were robbed. When razali was'nt there he broke down and shouted. He just remembered back about whatever is happening in his life he was upset that razali was busy with the neighbours rather then them he was angry at razali for that.

Q3)Discuss the reason for saloma's transformation in the play.
Firstly,Saloma was very timid at the beginning of the play.It was vinod who always talk to her and always asked her alot of questions. She always said "i must go home"act one scene one pg 11.She was afraid that a guy may hurt her just like what Azman did to her.She did'nt know what to do because she liked him he was crazy just like her.
Secondly, the robbery was the crucial part showing about saloma and vinod. At that point of time it was vinod who was the one screaming when the robber actually attack saloma. The robber stole from saloma and said to saloma "your boyfriend coward ah" that was the part that made vinod angry and his mood changes because he only wanted them together with no one else.
thirdly, when vinod went missing for a week.Saloma did not know what to do.So she went to write a letter to the newspaper and also apply for a job and made a bank account..She was helpless. She relied to much on vinod and went she wanted to be independent but vinod was blocking the way.So she decided to do it on her own since emily gan has changed her mindset.

"vinod's high expectations of himself caused his downfall".to wht extent do u agree with this analysis of vinods predicament and tragedy.
Vinod had been competitive in his day to day life and he had always wanted to be very fast in doing things. His parents had taught him all that when he was younger and now he had followed their footsteps, but vinod had go into depression but his parents did not.His high expectations was one main caused but there are other factors leading to it to.
Firstly, saloma was the person whom vinod had been relying on he treated saloma like a stray kitten found in the expressway. When saloma found a job and applied for a bank vinod felt that he couldnt understand her anymore because he had been always the one protecting her and if she didnt like it he would bring it away from her.saloma was his centre.
secondly, vinod was a literature top student many student always copied or photocopied his work and get their A's thanks to him.He felt that the university graduates were just a bunch of moronic idiots whom job was just to photocopy. He had really given up on studies ever since his break down.
thirdly, was his NS he was bullied by the sirs and platoon commander there .he said "i got balls sir" and kept on repeating it.He was supposed to go attend c because he is mentally unsound and that made them disturd him alot.

In your opinion how key is the parent-child relationship to vinod's inevitable end?
For me the parent child relationship that is going on in vinod's life is one trigger towards vinod inevitable end he wanted parental love but all they given was nothing actually they only cared that he do well but didnt really cared how he felt. They did'nt even talk to him about his opinions.
Firstly, his parents did not really care about vinod. They wanted their son to do well in school and be top just like them.Vinod's parents are so high and busy that he hardly see them everyday they are to preoccupied with their succesful life that they neglected vinod in the process."my parents are hoping i'll get well tmrw and then go abroad to study the next day, graduate on friday,do my masters on saturday and start work as deputy public prosecutor on monday" page 27,act 1 scene 3.
His parents also have applied university for him "in january..i have to go to the states to study"act 5 scene 4 pg 134.They did'nt ask for his opinion or suggestion and just book a university for him they are rather unfair to treat him like that because all he wanted was parental love from him.
Hence parent-child relationship is one of the triggers to vinod inevitable end.
