Poetry Ex 1 pg 245
Mining for meaning:
1)This poem is about the author being left with someone whom he or she really treasures.Evident is that "i had worse partings,but none that so gnaws at my mind still",the father might had really love the son that he felt a sense of lost when he left walking away from him.In his poem,he uses words like drifting away and hesitant figure,to exaggerate how heartbroken he is.In conclusion,the poem is about a broken and strained relationship left by a father and a son.
2) In the first paragraph,the relationship between sean and the father is that it is a one sided love as the author wrote that the son left him 'like a satellite' and 'go drifting away'.Maybe the son did not know that the father really yearns for his son to look his way.
Secondly,It shows that they have a strained relationship between each other as he left his hanging.Evidence is that 'who finds no path where the path should be',it shows that the guy didn't walk towards the author when he needed him to,instead he went away from him towards the wilderness.
Thirdly,when the guy left the author felt lost.Evidence is "ebbying away"showing walking off the island.It means that the son was hesitantly walking away from his dad,maybe his father did something wrong towards him that he can't forgive his dad.
Fourthly,it shows that they shared a close relationship but now it is all gone.Evident is that "and love is proved in the letting go ",the father had to let go of the son so he is feeling very sad as his bonding with his son is all gone.
3) The author uses images like "your first game of football,then,like a satellite wrenched from its orbit,go drifting away",shows that he was there when his son played his first game in football,cheering and supporting him then his son left him like a satellite,for the father it was very fast,he felt that his son just left him at lurch.
He also uses words like "you walking away from me towards the school" and also "like a winged seed loosened from its parent stem ",shows that the son left his father ,while walking away from him,and for his son,their relationship is loosen within father and son.
